Jewellery Care

The jewellery created by me at Angela Evans Jewellery is made to be worn, loved, and enjoyed for years to come.

With a little care, your pieces will continue to shine beautifully for many years ahead.

Quick Guide

Keep dry

Remove jewellery before showering, swimming, or washing hands and dishes.

Avoid chemicals

Perfume, lotion, hair dye, and cleaning products can damage metals and stones.

Handle gently

Take off jewellery during exercise, sleep, or manual work to avoid knocks or bending.

Store safely

Keep pieces in their original boxes or soft pouches, away from heat, sunlight, and moisture.

Clean with care

Use a soft cloth or the gentle cleaning method described below. Avoid soaking delicate stones.

Check regularly

If your piece needs cleaning, resizing, or stone tightening, I can help with professional maintenance.

Cleaning and Storing Guide

General Care

To help your jewellery stay looking its best, it’s worth taking it off during everyday activities thatmight cause wear or damage.Remove your jewellery when:

  • Showering or swimming
  • Washing dishes or cleaning
  • Applying lotions, perfume, or hair dye
  • Exercising or doing manual work
  • Sleeping or any activity that may put pressure on your jewellery

As much as we’d like to wear our jewellery all the time, giving it a little extra care helps prevent unnecessary damage and keeps it looking its best.

Storing your jewellery

When not being worn, store your jewellery carefully in its original box or a soft pouch to protect it from knocks and scratches.

Pieces containing stones will wear better and need less maintenance if stored
separately, away from other jewellery.

Many of my pendants use snake chains, which are beautifully smooth but delicate.

To avoid kinking or breakage:

  • Don’t fold or force them into small boxes.
  • Store them hanging or loosely coiled.

Cleaning Silver Jewellery (and Non-Porous Stones)

Silver Jewellery (and Non-Porous Stones)

Silver naturally tarnishes over time but is easy to restore with gentle cleaning.

Here’s a simple, effective method for removing light tarnish from plain silver jewellery or pieces set with hard, non-porous stones (like topaz, sapphire, or diamond):

  1. Line a bowl with aluminium foil — shiny side up.
  2. Place your jewellery on the foil.
  3. Sprinkle a layer of bicarbonate of soda over the pieces.
  4. Pour in enough boiling water to submerge them.
  5. Move the pieces gently with a plastic or wooden spoon (not metal).
  6. After a few minutes, remove carefully with tongs or tweezers, rinse in clean water, and dry.
  7. Finish with a gentle polish using a soft lint-free cloth.

Avoid this method for delicate or porous stones (see below).

Cleaning Porous & Delicate Gemstones (Pearl, Opal, Emerald,Amber, Coral, etc.)

Porous gemstones and certain treated stones need particularly gentle care.

They can absorb moisture or chemicals, which may cause discolouration or surface damage if cleaned incorrectly.

What to Avoid

  • Do not submerge these stones in water or jewellery cleaner.
  • Avoid ultrasonic or steam cleaners — they can cause cracking or clouding.
  • Keep away from perfumes, lotions, hairspray, and cleaning products.
  • Avoid using abrasive cloths or brushes that might scratch the surface.

Safe Cleaning

  • Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing.
  • If needed, lightly dampen a cloth with a drop of mild soapy water and gently clean around the metal setting only — not the stone — then dry immediately.
  • Store these pieces separately, in a dry place, away from moisture or direct sunlight.

Cleaning Gold Jewellery

Gold doesn’t tarnish like silver, but it can lose its shine
from daily wear.

To restore its lustre:

  1. Mix a little mild soap with warm water.
  2. Gently clean using a soft toothbrush, especially for textured surfaces.
  3. Rinse well and dry with a soft lint-free cloth.
  4. Finish by buffing lightly with a gold polishing cloth.
