Care & Maintenance

General Care
The jewellery created at Angela Evans Jewellery are high quality pieces, meant to be enjoyed for years to come. There are occasions when it is best to take off your jewellery so that it continues to shine bright. We would urge you to remove your pieces at any time where you feel there may be pressure on your item(s) such as showering, washing dishes, manual labour, working with cleaning/ chemical materials (inc. lotions/ perfumes/ hair dye), in swimming pools and hot tubs. As much as we would like to wear our jewellery all the time it is sometimes best to treat it with a little more care to avoid any unnecessary damage.

Storing Your Jewellery
When you take off your jewellery it’s important to store it properly, and in a safe place. Items of jewellery containing stones will wear better and require less maintenance if stored in their original boxes away from being knocked and scratched in a larger jewellery box.
Angela Evans Jewellery use a lot of ‘snake’ chains for pendants that a beautiful with no visible chain links, this type of chain though can be prone to kinking which leads to breaking and so we recommend you store these hanging or curled up carefully, never force them into a box or attempt to bend or fold them.

Cleaning Your Jewellery
Silver jewellery and jewellery with non-porous stones:
Below is a tried and tested method we like for silver jewellery to remove yellow tarnish.
1. Line a bowl with aluminium foil - shiny side up.
2. Lay your jewellery onto the foil carefully
3. Sprinkle with bicarbonate of soda over the surface of the pieces
4. Fill with enough boiling water to submerge your chain.
5. Move the piece(s) around with a plastic or wooden spoon (not metal) for a few minutes.
6. Remove from the bath, use tongs or tweezers (do not submerge your hands in just boiled water), rinse away any residues and buff with a soft lint free cloth to remove any remaining tarnish.

Jewellery containing porous stones (such as Turquoise, Opal and Emeralds)
Avoid bleach, chemicals, cleaners, perfumes & other harsh chemicals. Gently scrub with a soft toothbrush, a small amount of lukewarm water, and mild soap. Never fully submerge the stone in any form of jewellery cleaner or liquid.
Gold Jewellery
Gold does not tarnish like silver but it can become dirty and need to be cleaned up and re-polished. Cleaning can be done with a soft toothbrush if required, this may be the case for jewellery with very textured surfaces. Use warm water and a mild soap. Rinse and then dry with a soft lint free cloth, buff up again with a gold polishing cloth.
